Bridge Repairs

The main bridge of the Riverside Walk desperately requires replacing. You can see the damage to the fabric of the bridge on this video.

The Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods (FCTW) have received donations from an individual and other local organisations that allow the bridge to be totally replaced with no loss to the Cabrera Trust Fund monies.

Work on the bridge replacement is expected to proceed in February 2025.

About Us

Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods (FCTW) was set up following a meeting of concerned Virginia Water residents held in early March, 2023.

The Constitution of Friends of Cabrera Trust and Woods (referred to by the acronym FCTW) is available to view/download here.

A committee was formed and met in April 2023 to plan and prepare the actions of the newly-formed group.

The primary aim of FCTW is to raise funds to help preserve and protect the Cabrera Trust Woods and Bourne Riverside Walk.

So, why is FCTW needed?

The sole funding which supports this local natural resource is provided by an endowment to the Trustees (Runnymede Borough Council). The value of the fund is decreasing rapidly and will run out in the next few years.

If there are insufficient funds to maintain this land the decision on its future will revert to central government and no longer be in the control of the local community!

A PDF showing the state of the Cabrera Trust funds for the period 2022-2023 can be seen here on the Runnymede Borough Council web site.

This wonderful oasis of calm and natural reserve could be lost to the community if funds are not added to the Trust over time. We do not wish to see that happen.

The area supports a diversity of habitats which are home to a large number of species of birds, mammals, insects, wild flowers and grasses. Many of the plant species are markers of ancient woodland. In recognition of this diversity, the site has been designated as a local nature reserve for some 30 years.

If you wish to donate, please ensure that you provide us with all of the relevent details as you will become a Friend of the FCTW if your donation is equal to or higher than the minimum required.
